Read Only Memory is a type of built-in computer memory that can be only read and not written to. A ROM chip usually containts the information your computer needs to boot up. Unlike RAM, the information stored in ROM is not lost when the computer is turned off. ROM is also used extensively in devices such as calculators, laser printers, and other peripherals.
