Motherboard

The motherboard is the main circuit board of the computer. Everything that makes up the computer is eventually plugged into or connected to the motherboard. The first most common style of motherboard is the AT, based on the IBM AT motherboard. The more recent style is the ATX, which improved the AT. Most motherboards contain: CPU, BIOS, memory, mass storage interfaces, serial & parallel ports, expansion slots, any controllers that peripheral devices might need, such as the keyboard, mouse, display, etc.
