How To Add Dial-Up Networking

This page gives step-by-step instructions describing the process of adding Dial-Up Networking to Windows 9x.  This process is generally only used when troubleshooting connection problems.

Add Dial-Up Networking

  1. Click the Start button on the lower-left corner of your screen.
  2. Click Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Once Control Panel opens up, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. The Add/Remove Programs Properties screen should open up to the Install/Uninstall screen.  Click the Windows Setup tab.
  5. Now click the word Communications in the white box so that it highlights.
  6. Click the Details button.
  7. Once the Communications screen opens, click on the box next to Dial-Up Networking so that the the box is checked/selected.
  8. Click OK.  Now click Apply, then OK again.
After adding Dial-Up Networking, we recommend you restart your computer.
(To restart your computer, click the Start button, then click Shutdown.  Select Restart the computer and click OK.)
